That’s Not How I See Myself

Receiving criticism of any kind can be difficult for many. Unfortunately, especially for those in leadership positions, feedback and criticism will always be a part of the job. Sometimes your co-workers perceptions of you are inconsistent to the way your see yourself but, instead of being hurt by these observations it is important to understand what motivated these perceptions.

Many managers receive feedback on performance reviews and think “They have no clue what I do every day.” If that is true, then the solution could be as simple as communicating more about your vision and goals for your team. Understanding a person’s motivation is paramount in understanding the person. It is crucial not to let constructive criticism cloud a work environment. Being able to give and receive feedback is necessary for a healthy work environment.
