Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Director of Admissions
James Madison University (JMU), a selective public regional university in Harrisonburg, Virginia, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next associate vice president for enrollment management and director of admissions. This is an on-site leadership role; the anticipated start date is summer 2025.
Founded in 1908, the university extends over 650 acres of rolling Shenandoah Valley hills and includes over 100 buildings. Recently classified as an R2 Doctoral University by the Carnegie Commission, JMU is enjoying a rapid ascent in popularity and national rankings.
Reporting to the vice president for enrollment management, the associate vice president for enrollment management and director of admissions (AVP) leads the office of admissions and supervises all areas within the office, including recruitment and selection, operations and processing, access programming, visitor experience, transfer, international, and military populations. The AVP oversees an operating budget of $4.5 million and provides leadership and direction to a talented admissions team of 41 full-time, 10 part-time, and 45 student staff (including four graduate assistants), as well as 211 volunteer student ambassadors.
The approved salary range for the AVP position is $130,000-$150,000.
Qualifications
A master’s degree and extensive experience in undergraduate admissions work with first-year, transfer, international, and out-of-state populations are required. The search committee is particularly interested in applicants who have a record of success as a partner in enrollment management and student success initiatives; have deep knowledge of current trends, best practices, and new strategies in recruitment and retention; and are skilled in using institutional and market data to make informed decisions about marketing and communications strategies.
