The Registrar leads the Office of the Registrar and Academic Systems and is the chief student academic records official for Bates College. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty (DOF), the Registrar works in consultation with leadership in the DOF and has oversight for the development, implementation, and management of activities and systems related to academic records, student registration for courses, and course scheduling. Collaborating regularly with Institutional Research, Analysis, and Planning as well as staff in the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, the registrar is responsible for internal and external requests for data. The registrar ensures compliance with all federal, state, and agency regulations affecting the college’s academic programs.
Job Duties:
- Serve as chief student academic records custodian for Bates, overseeing the accuracy, integrity, security, and confidentiality of student academic records in accordance with institutional policy and state and federal regulations, including FERPA, and in consideration of industry best practice.
- Oversee the registration of students, collection of grades, and maintenance of student records.
- Publish the College Catalog.
- Oversee the course schedule and the assignment of classrooms for all college courses.
- Ensure the integrity of the Bates degree in accordance with institutional policy and accreditation standards, and in consideration of industry best practice.
- Direct the certification of students for graduation.
- Set goals and direction for the Office of the Registrar and Academic Systems, prioritizing work in support of the institution’s mission.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years experience working in a registrar’s office in a leadership role.
Advanced proficiency with registrar and academic systems software (significant experience with Ellucian’s Banner being ideal).
