Director of Data and Academic Planning

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Enrollment Management, the Director of Data and Academic Planning in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is responsible for the management of data reporting for the college supporting academic, student, and operational services, and works independently to interpret that data. In addition, this position takes primary responsibility for academic scheduling, and works with the Associate Dean to coordinate curriculum development and perform market research for CHSS-specific strategic planning.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Compile and analyze enrollment and curricular data at regular intervals as well as on demand for multiple stakeholders; conduct predictive modeling and interpret qualitative data to assist departments in making curriculum decisions.
Lead the development and evaluation of semester academic schedules (course offerings, faculty load, etc.); make data informed recommendations for schedules that are efficient and support student progression.
Use qualitative and quantitative research to forecast curricular and enrollment needs from both student and faculty perspectives.
Perform market research related to development of new curriculum; provide findings and recommendations to the Associate Dean.
Prepare clear and accurate reports containing findings and recommendations, and communicate results to diverse audiences; work with Chairs to increase their familiarity with available data to assist in informed decision making and operations optimization.
Liaise with offices across campus that impact job function (Admissions, Registrar, IT, etc.).
Develop and conduct training as needed for department academic staff (Chairs, PAs) on scheduling and reporting tools (Banner, CLSS, Cognos, Tableau).
Analyze and interpret dashboard data related to student success and department performance; present data to both expert and non-expert audiences.
Collect and interpret data for departmental SERC reports.
Monitor enrollment and assist with enrollment initiatives, including managing block scheduling and the provisioning of courses for incoming first-year students across the university.
Supervise the work of one or more Graduate Assistants (GAs) assigned to the Dean’s Office
Monitor reports on adjunct hires and faculty teaching loads.
Serve on committees relevant to job function.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.
QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
A minimum of 4 years of experience of data analytics and reporting in higher education or related industry.
Familiarity with higher education issues, IPEDS, assessment, and performance indicators.
Experience running reports with Cognos and/or using data visualization tools such as Tableau.
Advanced knowledge of Excel.
Familiarity with current strategic enrollment trends, tools, and systems.
Ability to communicate detailed analytical reports to a non-expert audience.
Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
PREFERRED:

Familiarity with the higher ed sector from multiple perspectives, including both 2-year and 4-year institutions, academic development, and marketing.
Experience with Ellucian Banner, CourseLeaf, Workday, or related academic data management software.
Knowledge of SQL.
Experience with predictive analytics.
Experience with curriculum development processes.
Experience with academic scheduling.
