UNC Charlotte invites applications and nominations for the position of University Registrar. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Enrollment Management, the University Registrar oversees a portfolio of responsibilities with a focus on advancing student success initiatives, supporting the academic enterprise through strong and collaborative relationships, and promoting the overall mission of the University.  The University Registrar manages a complex organization – overseeing operational, personnel, policy, and information technologies within the Office of the Registrar, and serving as a leader within Enrollment Management.  The Registrar provides information and actionable data to shape institutional and divisional discussions, trends, policies, processes, and strategic practices in support and advancement of the academic mission.  The Registrar oversees and ensures the integrity, security, and maintenance of all student academic records for current and former students and the administration of FERPA protections with associated staff training and systems maintenance. The position provides leadership and oversight to all aspects of the Office of the Registrar including curriculum management, data integrity, operational efficiency, registration, course scheduling, classroom scheduling and utilization, athletic eligibility for an NCAA Division I program, grade processing, University degree requirements, degree audit and certification, and active ownership and support of the Banner Student Information System. The office provides data for internal and external reporting, assists colleges and departments by furnishing needed data and other services, assists the faculty wherever possible, and renders services to the alumni by providing transcripts and certifications and other records needed.


The Office of the Registrar places service to students and faculty first among its priorities, recognizing these persons as the Office’s primary constituency.  As a primary information resource for students and faculty, this office actively seeks ways to effectively communicate and to inform students of their rights, responsibilities and procedures in a helpful and caring manner.  As a service oriented office, in addition to providing efficient and immediate access to information, this office facilitates and coordinates activities of students and faculty pertaining to administrative matters. The Registrar sits on various University committees and pledges to provide the highest level of service to all constituencies, both within and outside the University.


The ideal candidate will bring excellent leadership, vision, customer-service orientation, and technological skills to the Office of the Registrar.

Required experience and skills:

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree and a minimum of five years’ experience as a Registrar or Associate Registrar.
  • Evidence of progressively responsible experience in successful planning, management and administration of a comprehensive registrar’s office required.
  • Evidence of solution-oriented and innovative thinking and implementation of wide-scale initiatives.
  • Evidence of leading the strategic planning and execution of key initiatives that advance a broad range of divisional and University-wide student success initiatives, as well as critical services that support and advance the academic enterprise.
  • ERP experience (Ellucian Banner preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and leading a full-time staff, including the promotion of professional development activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing operating budgets in support of all records, registration, and commencement functions.
  • Exceptional knowledge of all appropriate federal and state laws, and mandates related to students and academic information (e.g., FERPA, NCAA, and ADA).
  • Strong technical, interpersonal, and organization skills.
  • Ability to provide leadership in the management, security, and storage of academic records; registration; classroom and course scheduling; transfer articulation, including those related to international agreements; degree audits; and student academic support.
  • Ability to provide collaborative leadership with faculty, staff, students, and the administration to implement policy.
  • Ability to be customer and solutions oriented with a commitment to raising the bar on customer service while maintaining compliance with policies.
  • Demonstrated record of accuracy in maintenance of records and adherence to university policy.
  • Be active in professional associations to present sessions and network with young professionals.
  • Fulfill with distinction all of the responsibilities of the University Registrar.
